Google for Educators (K – 12, Tools, Lessons, Communication and Newsletter)
A free, weekly, e-mail newletter that focuses on two topics per week, listing several tested and reviewed educational sites. On the main page you can browse by category or use the search tool located at the bottom of the page (not easy to find). Or, you can go to the EduHound Archives and browse through the weekly topics.
Instructional Uses of the Internet for Elementary Age Students (K – 5, Lesson ideas) * Kathy Schrock's Guide for Educators (K - 12, Lessons, Links) Kathy Schrock has maintained a categorized list of links for educators for several years. One of the best sources on the web for information about technology integration. Learning with Digital Images and Video (K - 12, Information, Links) Created and maintained by Sandy Lathem, Professor of Education at UVM, this site has a wealth of information. There are several annotated links to tutorials, and general information about using digital video and digital story telling in the classroom.
TechTrekers (K - 12, Web Quest Links) Thanks to Pam B. at UID for this site with dozens of links to web quests categorized by grade and content area. Last update is 2003, so links may be outdated, but there is a wealth of information worth exploring. You’ve got to see it to learn it! (K – 12, Article, Lesson ideas, Digital Photo Project Ideas) Blog article about using digital photos in the classroom. This site was opened recently and has received a lot of praise. There are free tools, an educator’s discussion group, a blog for educators by written by educators, classroom activites and more. This is worth more than a cursory look! Web Quests (K – 12, WebQuests) The original web quest page. Includes instructions and a tool for creating web quests, as well as a searchable database of web quests already created by teachers. May cost $20 for a two year subscription in the future if not already.

Read, Write Think (K – 12, Lessons, Interactive Activities, Links) This site is maintained by the National Council of Teachers of English and the International Reading Association. The link above takes you to the Student Materials, online activities section. Check out the links to Lessons and Web Resources as well. Lots of great online activities! Writer’s Window (K - 12, Site to publish writing) A site for students to publish writing and receive feedback. Includes continuous stories grouped by age. The "writing workshop" includes writing and publishing advice. HEALTH and WELLNESS KidsHealth (K – 12, Online Activities, Newsletters) Recommended by Nurse Betsy from Jericho Elementary. Targeted for parents and students with sections for kids and teens, they also distribute an e-mail weekly newsletter and “Kids Health in the Classroom” curriculum for teachers . FINE ARTS Art and Music (Links, Lessons) Dallas Symphony Orchestra Kids Club (K - 8, Interactive Activities) Music through the Curriculum/ Phil Tulga (K - 12, Interactive Activities) Connecting music to reading, math and science. Lot of lesson ideas and activities.
FOREIGN LANGUAGE Bilingual Quizzes (Beginning, Intermediate) Created for ESL students, the quizzes can be used by foreign language students as well. French (Beginning to Advanced, Interactive Activities, Links) French Language (K - 12, Reference, Links) Recommended by Laurie F. at MMU, this site has links to a variety of French language sites and includes gesture of the week, game of the week, quiz of the week, verb of the week, as well as links to tutorials. Learn Spanish (Interactive lessons) Recommended by both Carol A. and Mickey D. at MMU. Site includes tutorials with pronunciation of Spanish words. MATH Breaking Away from the Math Box (K – 8, Lessons, Interactive Activities) Not all activities are related to technology. There are several that use graphing calculators and many could be adapted to using with the SMARTBoard. Will take some time to search through these. It was created by Thomas Daccord and is maintained by Justin Reich, both teachers at Nobel and Greenough School in Massachusetts. Both of these teachers are avid users of technology in the classroom. The Center for Teaching History with Technology (K – 12, Links) Links to sites that offer history lesson plans, activities, tutorials, webquests, as well as podcast, blog and wiki tutorials. Also includes links to Inspiration tutorials and examples for use in History.
SOFTWARE and TOOLS Citation Machine (Online Tool for citing resources) Recommended by Tonya R. at MMU, this site allows you to type in information about a resource using the style you desire, and returns the proper citation for cutting and pasting into a document. An online tool that guides you through the process of developing a Web Quest. Graphic Organizers (K – 12, Interactive Activities, Software) Using graphic organizers is required in the Technology GEs and they are also great organization tools for our students who think and learn visually. Though Kidspiration and Inspiration are great to use with students, sometimes a simple one-purpose application might be easier. Check out the links from this page to find a variety of free on-line and downloadable tools. Hot Potatoes (K – 12, Puzzle Creation Software) Open Source, downloadable software to create Cloze, Matching, Mixing,Crossword and Quiz activities. This software will interface with Moodle so you can create puzzles and put them into Moodle lessons. Puzzlemaker (K - 12, Puzzle Creation Online)
TEACHER RESOURCES Edhelper (K – 12 Teachers, All Subjects, Lessons, Printable Worksheets and Puzzles) Recommended by Linda P. at Jericho Elem. You need to pay a subscription fee of $20/year to download and print worksheets. Google for Educators (K - 12 Teachers, Teacher Tools) Relatively new, Google has consulted with educators around the country to create an online community for teachers. Note the Tools and Activities pages. Math Fact Café (K – 4, Worksheets, Interactive Activities) Recommended by Jeanne A. at Richmond Elementary. Free now, but may need to pay in the future. Pre-generated or build your own worksheets, online practice and interactive flash cards. Includes up to three digit: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; time, decimals, fractions and percent. Intervention Central (K – 12 Teacher, Articles, Links) Recommended by Shelley F. at MMU, this is a site with lots of articles for teachers regarding behavior issues and classroom management. Preschool Printables (PreK - 1 Teacher) Recommended by Mia C. at UID. Free printable games, charts, signs, certificates, awards, etc) The Learning Page (K - 6 Teacher, Articles, Printable Worksheets, Clip Art, eBooks) Recommended by Mia C. at UID. TUTORIALS Almost Everything You Need for Using Excel in the Classroom (Gr. 4 – 12 Teachers, Tutorials, Lessons Ideas) * Internet4Classrooms – Online practice modules (K – 12 Teachers, 5 – 12 Students) On-line self-directed practice modules for a variety of computer skills including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Inspiration, and Kidspiration. Great if you need to find out quickly how to do one task in one of these applications.
